Breville Gasket Troubleshooting
Breville Gasket Troubleshooting
- Confirm you have the correct size for your machine. Breville has three different models/group head sizes.
50mm fits some older model 800 series machines
- Make sure your gasket is being installed in the group head after the group has been scrubbed clean of all coffee grounds, oils and residues.
Using an espresso machine cleaner and group head brush helps with this. Getting up into all the nooks and crannies is important.
Having your gasket fully seated in the group head will aid in it creating a good seal to your portafilter. Using your fingers or a flat tool, make sure you are pushing the gasket all the way up into the groove. Make sure that your gasket is installed correctly.
The flat side of the gasket goes up into the group head, and the open side is what should meet your portafilter.
- Gaskets are not the only wear part on espresso machines- Screens and Portafilter Baskets should also be replaced yearly on home machines.
If you replace only the gasket you may find that the old basket is not sealing to the gasket as it has worn down as well.
We also commonly see on older, well loved Breville machines that the Portafilers need to be replaced after a few years as the ear/wings get worn as well.
We do offer all these as well, in our Breville Collection. If you've checked all the trouble shooting items above and you are still leaking it may be worth looking into replacing the other wear parts on your machine.
